Areas of Practice

Family Law

Family law is an umbrella term that encompasses several areas of law, although the most common family law claims include divorce, child custody, child support, and adoption. However, “family law” also includes conservatorships, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, annulments, and orders of protection.

Wills & Estate Planning

Estate planning encompasses the transfer of property at death, as well as a variety of other personal matters. Most commonly, the average person would seek an estate planning attorney to prepare a Last Will and Testament, as well as any accompanying documents that may be necessary, such as a Durable Power of Attorney, a Medical Power of Attorney or a Financial Power of Attorney (just to name a few). Larger estates often require more planning and documentation, and many times will include a Trust to distribute large amounts of real or personal property.

Criminal Defense

If you are charged with committing a prohibited act under the Tennessee or Kentucky Criminal Codes, you will need a Defense attorney to represent you in your court proceedings. This encompasses both misdemeanor and felony offenses.

Civil Litigation

Civil litigation refers to any case brought before the court that is not criminal in nature. For example, a property dispute, probating a will, landlord-tenant disputes, or any other civil claim arising from a dispute between two parties.

Appeals

An appeal is an application to a higher court seeking to have a decision from a trial court reversed and/or remanded (meaning to be re-heard by the trial court). An appeal is available only where a trial court has already heard the case and issued a final decision on the merits of the case.
